Psalms 19:14
“14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
The Importance of Right Words - Part 3
Our words can also be used to bully other people. We can use harsh words that are designed to put other people down. Words that are designed to hurt and not to help. Words that are designed to intimidate. We need to use words that are true and right and pleasing to the LORD.
True words are designed to help others. The lost person needs to know they are a lost sinner. It is right to tell the lost of their need to be saved and the reason why they need to be saved. It is right to tell people the truth about intoxicating drink of any kind. The Bible says wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. It is right to teach people that marriage is between one man and one woman for life. It is sin to lust after another woman or man. It is sin to divorce and remarry. These are right words. However to those who are involved in these sins, they are offensive words. That does not mean they are wrong words. It is important to have the right attitude in our hearts as we speak. We need to have love one for another.
Our words need to be acceptable to the LORD. We do not decide if what we have said is right based on whether man likes it or wants it. We decide if what we are saying is right based on what God says.
Not only our words need to be acceptable to the LORD, but our meditation needs to be acceptable to the LORD as well. Meditation involves our hearts. It is the very thoughts of man that need to be acceptable to the Lord. It needs to be as that solemn sound upon the harp. It is acceptable to the LORD. Thus it is important for us to guard what goes into our hearts.
If we are saved, we belong to the LORD. We do not belong to ourselves. We need to guard what we put into our hearts. What we put in will come out. No matter how hard a person tries, what is in the heart will come out.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
“3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
