The Snare of New Evangelicalism - part 3
Numbers 22-24
God in His mercy and truth has given us more about this man in the Bible. As we examine this man and his life, we see that he was one who sought to make a holy God less than holy and he sought to break down the people of God — the nation of Israel. New Evangelicalism today is seeking to make a holy God less than holy and is also seeking to break down the people of God — found today in local churches. Sadly many of those who are following this movement today are lost people. They are people who have never been saved and are simply going through some motions that make them feel good. They are being deceived by smooth talking leaders who are looking for a following and do not care about the souls of men and women, boys and girls. However non has an excuse for being deceived. God’s Word is still true and it is still readily available to read and examine. God has also placed a conscience in every human being. A conscience that points out the reality of the true God and right and wrong.
One of the red flags that should come up is that Balaam would even consider the request to curse a people for reward. A true servant of God should not be motivated by reward. A true servant of God is exactly that: a servant of God. It is true that even a servant of God needs to live and it costs money to live. In the Old Testament God provided the means of taking care of the Levites. The Levites were appointed by God to be His servants among the nation of Israel. They were to serve in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple. From among them, priests were chosen to look after the spiritual needs of the people.
Numbers 18:6
“6 And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.”
Numbers 18:23, 24
“23 But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.
24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.”
